About Phi Phi
The Phi Phi Islands are part of a National Park in the south-west of Thailand, part-way between Phuket and Krabi, in the Andaman Sea. Phi Phi Don is the larger, inhabited island, and to the south Phi Phi Ley is the smaller island and home of Maya Bay, made famous by the movie 'The Beach', released in 2000. Further south is one of Phi Phi's best dive locations, made up of two small islands - Bida Nok and Bida Nai - and in the north is the beautiful Bamboo Island (Koh Pai).
By ferry Phi Phi is roughly 1.5-2 hrs away from Phuket and Krabi, 1.5 hrs away from AoNang/Railay and 1hr away from Koh Lanta. Ferries run daily to Phuket, Krabi and AoNang/Railay. Ferries to Lanta, Koh Ngai, Koh Muk, Koh Tarutao, Koh Lipe and Langkawi operate only in the high season.
Popular activities on Phi Phi include rock climbing, sightseeing and snorkeling tours, scuba diving, camping trips to Maya Bay or Bamboo Island, walks up to the viewpoint or round to the various beaches, big game fishing and cookery courses.
Accommodation prices range from backpacker dorms to 4* hotels. Most of the accommodation is centred around TonSai Village but there are some more secluded resorts in the east and to the north of Phi Phi Don.
There is a huge mix of food available, with traditional Thai, English, American, Swedish, Mexican, Italian and French restaurants on the island. The island has plenty of nightlife if you want to party with many beach bars, Thai Boxing shows, fire shows, and a live band in the high season. There are ATMs on the island and some resorts and travel agencies will accept credit cards.
